The Challenge

Renowned French lifestyle brand Repetto is famous for its ballet flats and dancewear. With a growing international following, the brand was selling B2C online to the EU, UK and USA. Repetto was keen to grow its global e-commerce revenues, expanding into additional markets worldwide, as well as increasing sales in existing markets. However, having experienced operational challenges throughout the Brexit transition period and beyond, Repetto understood that to successfully expand across the globe, it required a comprehensive global e-commerce solution.

Repetto set out to find an experienced e-commerce partner with an end-to-end solution to help it grow its global sales in a cost-effective way. The brand required a solution that would manage the operational and regulatory complexities of international trading, including tax and duty compliance and remittance. It also required the solution to enable an optimised customer experience for shoppers across each global market, supporting its expansion into new markets and enhancing sales in its current markets.

 

The Solution

In order to expand its e-commerce into new markets and grows sales in current key markets, Repetto chose to partner with Global-e, the world’s leading platform to enable and accelerate global e-commerce. Following a smooth integration process managed by Global-e’s team, Repetto is now able to offers shoppers across the globe an optimised shopping journey including an enhanced Shopify native checkout experience, localised per market and aligned with the brand’s business goals. This includes:

  • Localised messaging
    A customisable top-line banner for each market, promoting key marketing messages such as free shipping over a specific threshold.
  • Local pricing in local currencies
    Product pricing is set per market, in line with Repetto’s business goals and rounded according to local market conventions. Over 100 currencies are supported.
  • Guaranteed final cost of purchase
    A flexible approach to duties and taxes based on best practices per market and capabilities to provide:

    • Pricing inclusive of duties and taxes, informing customers that no additional costs will be added at checkout or upon delivery.
    • Prices inclusive of duties with taxes displayed and pre-paid at checkout.
    • Calculation of all taxes and duties displayed at checkout and prepayment.
  • Express shipping at competitive rates
    Free shipping above a specified threshold, set per market.
  • A wide range of local and alternative payment methods
    Over 150 payment options are supported, including the most popular methods in each market, such as Buy Now-Pay Later and digital wallets.
  • Easy and transparent return process
    Prepaid returns at attractive rates.

 

Guided by a dedicated Success Manager, Repetto launched tailored offerings, leveraging Global-e’s big-data models and local market expertise to build optimised propositions that include market-specific pricing, shipping, and tax and duty strategies. This ongoing partnership provides Repetto with data-backed insights for agile decision-making, allowing the brand to quickly adapt to market changes and business needs to maximise sales and profitability.

Acting as a Merchant of Record, Global-e takes the responsibility of global regulation and tax compliance, handling all aspects of the brand’s collection, import processing, remittance and filing for sales as well as returns. The brand now has peace of mind that Global-e will handle any updates that need to be made due to regulatory changes. Global-e also manages Repetto’s inbound and outbound logistics, payment acceptance optimisation and fraud prevention, which reduce the brands operational costs and enhance profitability.

With a localised shopping experience for global customers, and seamless global operations, Repetto is now able to focus on its product offering and global marketing strategy. As part of this strategy, Repetto is featured on Borderfree.com, Global-e’s international brand awareness and demand generation platform. Borderfree builds global brand awareness through targeted social media campaigns as well as showcasing Repetto to over two million registered shoppers who are actively looking to discover new brands.

The Results

Following integration with Global-e, Repetto was instantly able to expand its D2C e-commerce across the globe. Having previously only transacted in the EU, UK and USA, within just three months of integration the brand saw online sales from 59 markets. In this short time, Repetto’s global e-commerce revenues grew by 15% YoY, with international markets accounting for 63% of the brand’s D2C e-commerce revenues. Long-tail markets now cumulatively represent Repetto’s fourth largest international market after the USA, UK and Germany. Canada, another previously untapped market, has become one of the brand’s top ten international markets.

Repetto has also seen impressive growth in its key international markets since partnering with Global-e, including the UK, Belgium and the USA. The brand’s D2C revenues from the UK grew by 41% YoY, with taxes and duties now built into product pricing and a guarantee of no additional fees upon delivery, in line with local expectations. Repetto’s D2C revenues from Belgium grew by 27% YoY, with local shoppers now able to pay with popular alternative payment methods including Mistercash and Klarna. In the USA, Repetto’s revenues grew by 11% YoY, with local taxes now displayed and prepaid at the checkout.
